Tittel: Monitoring of hazardous substances in the coastal areas of the White Sea: harmonisation with OSPAR’s Joint Monitoring and Assessment Programme (JAMP) – White Sea, 2008
The report presents data on environmental contaminant concentrations in biota and sediments from the White Sea, June-July 2008. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are the major contaminants of bottom sediments. The highest PAH contamination level (“Moderate contamination” by Σ16 EPA PAH) was found in the top of Kandalaksha Bay where selected PAHs were attributed to IV Class of contamination. Contaminant levels in blue mussel and fish from the Pechora Sea did not exceed international requirements on contaminant concentrations in seafood and in accordance with SFT environmental classification system of contaminants in blue mussel and fish can be defined as “Insignificant contaminated”.
