Dr Chris Field, Co-Chair of the IPCC Working Group II and several Coordinating Lead Authors of the report, including Dr Karen O’Brien from the University of Oslo, are amongst the key speakers.
January 25 the conference will continue with two parallel sessions on how to use the findings in the report to strengthen disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation – in Norway and in development cooperation.
The conference is organized by the Climate and Pollution Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning and the University of Oslo.

January 25, 2012
Venue: Klima- og forurensningsdirektoratet, Strømsveien 96, Helsfyr
Working hours: 0900–1530
On Day 2 we invite you to choose between and participate in two parallel sessions on how to use the key findings and conclusions in the report and translate them into action – in Norway and in the most vulnerable countries.
- Session A: Managing the risks linked to extreme events and disasters in Norway
- Session B: Disaster risk reduction (DRR) in development cooperation
Working language: English
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites to the parallel session with a focus on challenges and opportunities for development cooperation in a changing climate, and how to improve efforts on disaster risk management and climate change adaptation in vulnerable countries. This session will focus on different sectors/topics (health, food security, displacement), levels (local, national, regional) as well as groups to be included in disaster management processes (civil society, children and youth, women).
We expect participants to engage in the debates and to contribute with their experience and perspectives. The aim is to come up with ways to strengthen international efforts on DRR, on the basis of the solid, thorough and practical IPCC Special Report.
