Collective action - common gain

This brochure presents both the scope and the results of Norwegian environmental assistance in Eastern Europe from 1993 to 2000. Pollution knows no boundaries. In particular, the state of the environment in our neighbouring countries in Eastern European has a significant impact on the environment in Norway. Under the motto "Helping people to help themselves", Norway launched an extensive development assistance programme including protection of the environment.

The aim of this co-operation was to solve existing environmental problems and to prevent future environmental problems caused by economic growth in Eastern Europe. Norway gave financial and technical support to the public authorities, the business community and the industry in our partner countries in order to enable them to deal with their environmental problems themselves. The projects also focused on the importance of managing our common environmental heritage by preserving the cultural landscape and biological diversity.

We hope that "Collective action - common gain" will provide you with an insight in both the scope and results of the many and diverse co-operation projects with our Eastern European neighbours. The brochure is also available in Norwegian.
